joe128sm_0Joe Washington is the original host of “Ground Breakers”, the longest running landscape show on HGTV.

The public’s response to his highly credible style, sense of humor and easy going nature has created a demand for live appearances across the country for clients ranging from The Radiological Society of North America, to IBM and Disney.

His passion for outdoor living spaces and training as a Master Gardener bring Joe to the stage frequently to discuss his advocacy of topics such as smart gardening practices to reduce water use and adaptive gardening for seniors and people with disabilities.

The veteran broadcaster has successfully embraced big projects in all phases of his career. Beginning in 1996 he hosted WTBS’ “interact.atlanta” which received numerous awards including the National Broadcasting Association’s “Best Public Affairs Show” in 1997. Prior to his national exposure, Joe served as evening sports anchor at NBC affiliate WXIA-TV in Atlanta and specialized in coverage of high school athletics. During his 20 year stint at the station Joe garnered several awards including three Southeast Regional Emmys. He also handled news anchoring and reporting for the station, calling on his experience in that arena from his days at Seattle’s KOMO-TV and KMGH-TV in Denver.

Joe is always looking to take his skills to a higher level. His continuing career as a corporate spokesperson has made him a much-in- demand narrator in commercials and corporate projects as well as a strong presence in video and live corporate presentations. Many of America’s top businesses utilize his services including AT&T, The Home Depot; Spectracide, Georgia Tech Research Institute, The Centers for Disease Control, The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and Norfolk Southern Railway.

His easy going presence on camera has also led to a variety of acting credits: On television in television series such as “The Originals,” “Reed Between the Lines,” and “Army Wives,” and on the big screen in “Anchorman 2,” Forrest Gump,” and “Scream 2,”.

Joe is a single father of two sons who is deeply involved in his children’s academic and extracurricular pursuits. He is a Cobb County Master Gardener Volunteer and currently serves on the board of the Cobb County Extension Service.

It’s no surprise that Joe’s personal interests include landscape work in his own yard along with woodworking, bicycling, learning to play golf, cooking, watching movies and documentaries and occasionally reading a good book.
